COMMOTION IN SENATE OVER OIL FIELD OWNERSHIP

Senate-Chamber

Three Senators engaged in war of words on the floor of the Senate over rightful ownership of oil fields which each says belong to their state. The oil fields identified as OPL 915, 916 and 917 have been the source of communal clashes among border communities in Kogi, Enugu and Anambra since the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

The lawmakers, who are contesting ownership of the oil field, want the senate committee on upstream petroleum to wade into the controversy.

This uproar was sparked when Senator Andy Uba, stood up on the floor of the Senate to join issues with Senator Chukwuka Utazi over rightful owner of oil fields named OPL 915, 916 and 917.
