The Nigerian Navy is collaborating with the Nigeria Police Force to address the security challenges in the Maritime domain. This came to light at a strategic security note exchanges between the Acting Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris and the Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Ibok Ete- Ibasi. They say the collaboration will help curb kidnapping in the nation’s waterways.
The Chief of the Naval Staff says the collaboration will enhance intelligence gathering so as to curb the issue of kidnapping, robberies and other criminal tendencies in both local and international waters within Nigeria’s Maritime jurisdiction. He says the Nigerian Navy will help in the capacity building of the Nigeria Police Force in order to eliminate all forms of economic sabotage, vadalisation of pipelines as well as sea robbery and piracy.
Acting Inspector General of Police says the cooperation is geared towards maintaining law and order in the country. He believes that the capacity of the Marine Police will be enhanced and strengthened with such technical skills passed on by the Navy.
