This National Examinations Council (NECO), has reschedule the papers meant for Thursday 22 October 2020, Friday 23 October 2020 and Saturday 24 October 2020, to 17th, 18th and 19th November 2020. NECO has already directed its examiners and invigilators to return to their various offices and await further instructions.
A message from the Director of Examination Administration to all its field officers confirmed the stoppage of the examination. The decision to stop the conduct of the examination also followed the declaration of 24-hour curfew by some state governors especially those of Lagos, Ogun, Edo and Imo where the #ENDSARS protest had assumed destructive dimensions. The examination body had conducted the Economics paper test on Tuesday while the Physics practical paper took place on Wednesday without some candidates in some states writing the tests because of the protest and curfew.
In a statement by Azeez Sani, Head Information and Public Relations, NECO, these changes were due to the security challenges arising from the continued #EndSars protest across the country, which led to the imposition of curfew and closure of schools by some state governments. “In order to safeguard lives and properties. In the circumstances, it has become difficult for the Council to move examination materials across the country.
“The Council prays that the Examinations will continue on Tuesday 27 October 2020, all things being equal, with the papers as originally scheduled in the examination time table. “The examination time table for these papers will be made available subsequently. “Any inconvenience caused is highly regretted”, he stated.
